No fewer than 15 persons were reportedly killed and over 3,000 others were displaced by floods
between early August to early September in Katsina State. 21,481 others also sustained various degrees of injuries as a result.

The Executive Secretary of State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Hajiya Binta Hussain Dagani, disclosed this in an interview with some journalists. According to her, the flood also damaged a total of 32,542 houses in 32 local government areas of the state.

Those severely affected include Dutsinma, Daura, Kaita, Katsina, and Batagarawa LGA. The rest are Funtua, Malumfashi, and Musawa LGA.

Earlier, at the old Katsina Government House, Hajiya Dagani flagged off the distribution of palliatives donated by the Bank of Industry to flood victims in the state. Katsina. She disclosed at the ceremony that plans are underway by the state government to provide additional relief measures such as cash assistance, building materials, to the victims by next week.

Dangani noted that the agency has submitted a comprehensive report to the state government detailing the statistics of victims, damages, affected areas, and casualties for further action. She explained that the Emergency support groups, including the Jos-based Health and Development Support Programme (HANDS), are currently mobilising support to offer more assistance to the affected communities in Katsina.
