The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, has urged newly promoted senior officers to remain steadfast in delivering purposeful, disciplined and exemplary leadership to the troops under their command. The charge was delivered at a colourful decoration ceremony held on 4th December 2025 at the Hippo Officers’ Mess, Victoria Island, Lagos.

In a statement released by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, the GOC congratulated the officers elevated from Lieutenant Colonel to Colonel and from Colonel to Brigadier General. He praised their dedication, discipline, and hard earned achievements, noting that their commitment significantly contributed to the Division’s success in executing the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy for the year. According to him, the new ranks represent a call to even higher responsibility and a renewed duty to inspire, guide and mentor their subordinates.

Major General Mijinyawa emphasized that the promotions were strictly merit-based, reflecting professionalism, resilience and integrity. He encouraged the officers to continue demonstrating leadership by example, setting high standards, and working diligently toward their next career milestones. He also commended the spouses of the newly promoted officers, acknowledging the critical support they provide that enables the officers to excel in service.

Among those decorated were Brigadier General IB Sheriff, Chief of Staff 9 Brigade; Brigadier General MI Abdulkadir, Deputy Chief of Staff (Training and Operations), Headquarters 81 Division; and Brigadier General OS Idowu, Commander 81 Division Medical Services and Hospital. Others included Colonel OA Olubo, Acting Director, 81 Division Education Services, and Colonel M. Bwete, Chief of Staff, 104 Division Equipment Support.

In his vote of thanks, Brigadier General IB Sheriff expressed deep appreciation to God, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu NAM, and the GOC for the honour of elevation. He pledged renewed loyalty, dedication and professionalism on behalf of all the promoted officers, extending gratitude to family members, colleagues and well-wishers for their unwavering support.

The ceremony drew a distinguished gathering including the Commandant of the Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management, Major General AC Adetoba; senior formation commanders; retired senior officers; and the Chairman, House Committee on Marine and Blue Economy, Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki. The event concluded with group photographs, marking yet another milestone in the Division’s tradition of honour and excellence.
