Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has declared that he plans to use the award that President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) gave him to promote his 2023 election campaign.
Wike made this statement at a dinner/reception organised in his honour on Monday night in Port Harcourt to commemorate the “Distinguished Award in Infrastructure Delivery.”
While dedicating the honour to God, he noted that the state’s assistance and encouragement were responsible for the administration’s achievements in infrastructure development.
We must all work together, he remarked. Traditional leaders aid Rivers State in progress. Contractors, you should all assist Rivers State to restore the institution to its former glory as Dr. Peter Odili set the basis for it.
So, on behalf of everyone who has prayed for us to accomplish what we have, I sincerely thank you and dedicate this prize to God, the Almighty. I don’t receive the honour. You all, that is. If the ruling party can declare that you did well, who is it that makes me proud to say that? Let them come here and run for office.
Take your report card with you. I’ll bring the medal and the diploma. I’ve done well, President Buhari stated.
Wike asserted that he never made any promises to win the position of governor, stressing that only God has the authority to do so.
If someone could prove that he promised him the lucrative job and broke his word, he threatened to quit as governor.
Wike stated, “I informed my people that God is the source of all power. I have never sat with someone on any given day. I challenge whomever claims that I made a commitment to the person who sat next to me that he would become governor.

“I will quit as governor of Rivers State if anyone can publicly challenge me.”
“You want to be governor, right?” he continued. Do you know who dashed me, governor? I struggled and worked for it. You, get in the battle.
The governor emphasised the need for people to learn to uphold their end of agreements and said he was delighted and fulfilled as he left office.
People should make an effort to uphold commitments made with others, he continued. Acceptance is acceptance. I’ll stick to it when I agree with you. They are having issues there because of this. They are sleep-able.
“I’m leaving, and I’m doing it with joy. I have no regrets at all. In fact, I promised my wife, “Now that I don’t have a job, you can kiss me till you’re weary.”
