In line with the promise of the administration of the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu in his ‘THEMES’ agenda for a greater Lagos, the State Government through the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board (LSPHCB) in conjunction with Lagos State Infrastructure Management Agency (LASIAMA) and the various Local Governments involved, today flag-off the upgrade in three Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) of Mende, Akoka and Abule-Nla out of the twenty (20) PHCs designated and located in the five divisions of the State that has already been approved for upgrade by Mr. Governor.

The Permanent Secretary of LSPHCB, Dr. Ibrahim Akinwunmi Mustafa represented by Pharm. Shakirat Adeosun at the flag-off ceremony said that the upgrade of the twenty PHCs across the State would fulfil the Governor’s promise of infrastructure upgrade in the letter ‘H’ of the THEMES agenda which stands for Health and Environment.

Adeosun also noted that “these upgrades would provide conducive, comfortable and hospitable environment for both the health workers and the patients, as well as, enhancing smooth delivery of health care service to the communities”.

The General Manager of LASIAMA, Mrs. Adenike Adekanbi who was also present at all the three flag-off ceremonies opined that LASIAMA as a government agency has been mandated to ensure that all infrastructure upgrades and construction are at par with global standards. She therefore reiterated that the agency is involved in order to ensure that standards are not compromised, while also ensuring the delivery of dividends of Mr. Governor’s promises to Lagos inhabitants and visitors alike. Each PHC upgrade is expected to be completed between three to six months of commencement.

The Local Government Chairman where the twenty PHCs for upgrading are located promised maximum cooperation with the State Government team, as well as, the contractors. They also said that, if need be, they would ensure evacuation of the operations of the affected PHC to a nearby one, in order not to create a vacuum within the community. Enumerating the fact that this type of synergy between the various levels of government is what good governance is about.
