The management team of the Seme-Krake joint border post security received representatives of the ECOWAS Commission on Tuesday, the 20th of June, 2023.
The visit was aimed at the monitoring of activities at the common control zone by Nigeria and Benin Republic.
The retinue from the ECOWAS Commission also had in attendance, Ashoke Maliki head of road transport, representatives from the Federal ministry of transportation, the Comptroller of Customs Seme Border Dera Nnadi mni, Comptroller of Customs Federal Republic Of Benin Krake, Ayivi Eliane and the Chairman Badagry West LCDA Joseph Gbenu amongst others.
The head of the ECOWAS delegation, stressed on the need for a reduction of check stops along the border route especially for trade, which is being jointly handled by the activities of both countries Customs organizations.
The Chairman of the joint border post security team, Comptroller Dera Nnadi mni in response, called on businessmen to take advantage of the government’s newly effected policies on trade exports. He also hailed the Nigerian government for the repairs of the roads along the border route. He also remarked on the improvement of relationships between both countries the development of facilities along the Seme-Krake border post.
In another development, Comptroller Nnadi hosted Badagry community leaders at the Customs Command in a feedback on community development, developmental challenges and solutions to problems that emanated therein. Present at the meeting were the Chairman of the Badagry West LCDA, Joseph Gbenu, the Oba of Kweme kingdom, Oba Sejiro James and youth leaders from the community.
The youth leaders appealed for the reopening of the land borders to enable vehicle import business to thrive.
Further speaking, Comptroller Dera Nnadi mni, responded that the issue of car importation was being addressed and he advised the members of the community to make regular use of the Customs clinic which is standard with subsidized rates.
The youths were also presented with sports wears to encourage healthy inter community games especially football, to curb youth restiveness and improve communal relationships.
