The Deputy Governor of of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat representing the governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has asked Nigerian Youths to embrace Change as a catalyst for development.
Dr. Hamzat made the call at the maiden edition of the Generation Next Forum, organized by the Chartered Institute Of Bankers Of Nigeria(CIBN).
Speaking at the forum , themed “Industry 5.0 Banking Revolution : Insights For Generation Next” , he said that it is aimed at the youth to empower and prepare them for meaningful contribution into the nation’s economy. In doing this, they have to be equiped with the necessary technical and industrial skills and also the ethical values needed in the industry.
In view of this, the government is also committed to provide the right environment to encourage the growth and development of all critical sectors especially the banking sector. With Lagos as the commercial nerve centre of the country, it is therefore pertinent for the State to play a huge role in embracing and leveraging the industry.
Speaking further, he said that with the teeming youth population which is approximately 70% which are people under 30 years old, it would be the best time to groom them and nurture them to be the next generation of astute bankers.
Dr. Hamzat said that the concept of Industry 5.0 is a build up of advanced technology like artificial intelligence, internet of things, Blockchain,robotics, big data and other developing technology that has the makings of the human – machine collaboration that will not only enhance lives but transform smart living in every sphere of life especially in the banking and finance
industry.
He urged the youth especially the young bankers and financial professionals at the event to embrace change and use the opportunity to question, unlearn, relearn and poise themselves for bigger things as future leaders.
The opportunities available to them especially at the forum, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat said, were immense for future collaborations, partnerships and inspiration to build a resilient and inclusive system that would benefit all Nigerians.
In closing the address, the Deputy Governor assured of support and partnerships with individuals and organisations that development and promote the youths to be productive and self-sustaining. The Lagos State’s commitment is underscored by the change of the development agenda from T.H.E.M.E to T.H.E.M.E.S+; prioritizing equality, social inclusion and youth development.
He thanked the CIBN President/ Chairman of Council, Dr. Ken Opara and his team for their visionary leadership and dedication in organizing the event.
He thanked all who were present and wished them a smooth future with the power of technology and using it for the greater good no matter where they are.
