Afree, a social network app has been launched in Lagos, Nigeria. The App which is aimed at increasing networking and accessibility to entertainment, creative material and a host of other online features is one of a kind.
The Afree App was designed to be a platform thar connects Africans in terms of business, education, entertainment and social networking opportunities.
The Afree App is set to be spread all over the African continent to enhance wide user coverage but presently, the App is featured in the Nigerian and Cameroonian social media spaces.
At the forum, Dr. Joshua Orabiyi, one of the founders and developers of AFREE, spoke extensively on the app and stating that it is mutually exclusive for Africans and designed by Africans. He described the Afree App as the future of African social media networking.
He said that Africans have certain values of resilience, hard work and learning and these are things that are top content on the App.
With enhanced features that support users’ security and measures that are non exploitative, Afree will definitely be the go-to App for all Africans who are tech savvy and need reliable social networking opportunities.
Dr.Tope Alakija, a senior lecturer department of statistics, Yaba College Of Technology, Spoke on the effect of mental health impact in social media use both positively and negatively.
She said it has been very good in propagating positive values for research, linking people of like minds and information and also some people have used it to bully, manipulate and stream negative content. She advocated for parental control for their children and wards on social media space. For every person, time and impact should be deliberate the mindful to mitigate undue influence on other parts of their lives.
She said that on the whole Afree was designed to bring like-minded people together with the reduction of censorship on their content.
The Managing Director of Lagos Minds, a tech hub, Ms. Ejiro Oghene, also spoke on ways to have positive time to create a healthy mind approach towards the use of social media.
There were several display of the rich African culture through dances and a question and answer session for the attending youth and students. Prizes of brand new phones were made at this session.
Awards for excellence were given to several attendees on behalf of the AFREE group.
