An Entrepreneur, Mr Victor Olojo, has urged Nigerian youths to make use of their time on useful ventures capable of offering tangible solutions to real-world problems, rather than wasting their time on frivolities.
Olojo, who is the Founder of Credit Me, a startup mobile money payment system, gave the advice at the Lagos Level Up Conference on Saturday in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the conference, organised by The Sparkle Hub (TSH), is with the theme: “Transform, Thrive and Triumph”.
Olojo said this was the right time for the youth to make meaningful contributions to the growth and development of the country as a whole and not to give up on a better Nigeria.
According to him, Nigerian youths should begin to harness their potential, rather than become discouraged with the economic challenges in the country.
“Nigeria is a country full of great potentials and I think it’s high time we began to harness the potential we have, both in human and material resources.
“So, what this programme does today is to help young Nigerians to get prepared by transforming their mind so that they can also thrive and triumph and this is the best time.
“Remember that the mind at birth is a tabula rasa, so exposing them to the best in terms of information they need to transform their minds is imperative.
“This is so that they can also make meaningful contributions to the development of the Nigerian government and country as a whole,” he said.
Olojo urged participants to begin to do the right things when they find themselves in meaningful positions,as it would enable them to make meaningful contributions to the country.
He urged the government to encourage organisations to have programmes that would help Nigerians, as well as guide young Nigerians in terms of career, business, crafts and among others.
Also speaking, Mrs Damilola Oluremi, a Lawyer, said the programme was to inspire young minds, helping them understand the importance of leadership, purpose and encouraging them to be a better version of themselves.
She said: “You can be what you want to be, it is a matter of the mind and you need to ensure that your mind is opened up to possibilities.
“So, it means there is so much that you can do. There is so much you can become. You have to open your mind up to possibilities and you have to be diligent.
“Even in the Bible, there is a quote that says when a man is diligent in his work, he will stand before kings and not mere men.
“So, it’s not only about wishing to become great but it is about actually doing the work.
“You need to be diligent, you need to be consistent.
“You need to put your hands out there. You need to put your everything out there. Just pour out your heart, pour out yourself and see what comes to you.”
Olufemi urged the youth not to keep complaining about the present situation of the country or about the government that they were not helping them.
“Don’t allow your country to limit you but allow yourself to become the better version of yourself”.
Olufemi urged the youth to forge ahead in terms of whatever good goals they wanted to become or achieve in life.
The Convener, Jumoke Sanni, said the reason for the conference was to gather young minds together in one room and talk about their problems in the society.
Sanni said the problem in the society were in three folds – career, business and relationship.
She said the conference would enable them to talk about the issues and how they could affect their environment at the marketplace and also at the work environment.
The convener said the conference would also be held in Ibadan on March 29, while on April 5 in Makurdi. NAN
