Youths in Lagos under the umbrella of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) have unveiled the Lagos Youth Development Institute (LYDI}.
Speaking during the inauguration in Lagos on Thursday, Director-General, LYDI, Mr Jamiu Ademosu said that the event marked the birth of a movement that would endure beyond the present.
“We are witnessing the formal unveiling of the LYDI, a vision that has evolved through careful planning, strategic insight, and unwavering determination into a tangible reality.
”As Director-General of LYDI, I feel both a profound sense of responsibility and immense pride in leading a platform that is for every young person across Lagos State,” he said.
Ademosu noted that youth development was urgent and indispensable, and training of leaders was not a luxury.
”It is a civic responsibility and a fundamental prerequisite for national growth,” he said.
He disclosed that the LYID mission had delivered a transformative, cohort-based leadership journey for youth aged between 18 and 35, selected from the three senatorial districts of the state.
Ademosu emphasised that through the programme, the institute would cultivate leaders who were not only employable and entrepreneurial but also socially responsible, civically engaged, and globally competitive.
He disclosed that the application portal for the first LYDI Cohort would officially open on May 1, at exactly 1:00 p.m.
”We invite every eligible youth in Lagos to take this bold step toward transformation,” he said.
Earlier, Mr Ibrahim Adigun, Chairman, Lagos State Council, NYCN, said that the event was to unveil a vision, to ignite a movement, and to celebrate a milestone in the youth development architecture of the state and Nigeria at large.
“As a council, we understand that the future of Lagos and indeed Nigeria rests not in the hands of chance but in the strength of our preparation.
”That preparation is what gave birth to the LYDI, a strategic flagship initiative of our administration, shaped by the P3+ Agenda; Professionalism, Productivity, and Publicity.
“LYDI was envisioned as a leadership production pipeline, a structured, inclusive, and transformative platform where young Lagosians are trained to become ethical leaders, civic actors, problem solvers, and social innovators.”
Adigun added that through a cohort-based learning journey, spread across three modules, Leadership & Personal Development, Entrepreneurial Leadership & Career Competence, and the Capstone Experience, LYDI was nurturing a new generation of youth ready to lead from the frontline.
He said as Chairman of the NYCN, Lagos State Chapter, he was proud to stand with a dynamic team of leaders who understood that leadership was not inherited, but developed.
