Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged Lagosians to come out and do the right thing by voting for candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming local government elections, emphasizing that an APC victory at the grassroots level is crucial for sustainable development in the state.
The Governor said this on Thursday while addressing Party Faithfuls at the APC Lagos West I, Local Government Election Campaign Rally held at the Ifako Ijaiye Stadium, Agege, Lagos, stating that the Local Government election is important for the continuity and further development in the state.
Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat stressed that the party has done so well at all levels of government, providing infrastructure and touching the lives of citizens through various people-oriented programmes, which the party faithfuls should showcase and be proud to tell the citizens as they canvass for votes.
He said, “We have a lot of projects, we are building roads, we are building hospitals, we are building schools. So we are a party of the people. We are doing well. Let’s go out and support as well as energize our base. I charge you all to ensure that the party wins across the entire fifty-seven Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas (LGs and LCDAs), Go everywhere and ensure that you do the right thing, as we are the only party in the country that is doing the right thing for the citizens,” said the governor.
Speaking further, the Governor assured that the party will continue to do well for the State, as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has done since he emerged as President. He added that the President has engaged in fundamental projects that future generations will benefit from.
Similarly, in his address, the Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa enjoined party members to encourage their neighbours, friends, relatives, among others, to get the Permanent Voters Cards and come out on the day of the election and vote for APC.
Describing the APC as the right party for the people, he enjoined Nigerians to shun and ignore the ‘enemies of progress’ who are only after power without the intention of delivering on their mandates.
Obasa noted that the people are seeing the development projects recorded in the state, which cannot be compared to any other state. The different projects, infrastructures put in place as schools, health centers, and bridges are all in places of the state. He, however, wished that the next local government chairmen would achieve more of the projects by the grace of God.
He also commended the President for giving the state the additional 37 LCDAs, as it has continued to develop Lagos.
In his remarks, he called on party members to complement the effort of the party by making sure that they embark on a door-to-door campaign, selling the party’s candidates to the people, and making sure that they trust the party and the candidates the APC is presenting for the election.
He added that Lagosians should use their votes as an investment to improve education, health, infrastructure, living standards, and prosperity at the grassroots level by voting for APC candidates.
Also speaking at the event, House of Representatives Member representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, Hon. James Faleke, called on Lagosians to vote for continuity owing to the various infrastructural developments witnessed in the State and the laudable performance of the outgoing chairmen in the State.
He therefore urged members to go out to cast their votes for the candidates of the APC and remain calm, no matter the type of provocation that they may encounter on the day of voting.
“Let us try as much as possible to avoid any provocation that we may encounter on the day of voting. Let us try as much as possible to avoid it. Let us make sure that we cast our vote. When our results are out, victory shall be ours in Jesus’ name,” he concluded
