The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has concluded a three-day operational visit to the 6 Division Area of Responsibility (AOR), during which he inaugurated several landmark projects executed to enhance operational efficiency and troops’ welfare.
In a statement released by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel OA Anele, the Army Chief commissioned multiple infrastructure developments across formations in Rivers, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom States. At the Port Harcourt Barracks, he unveiled the Headquarters 6 Division Office Complex Extension and the Python Harmony Centre. He also commissioned newly constructed 2 x 10-family Corporal and Below Quarters (CBQs), remodeled 7 x CBQs, a remodeled Cantonment Office, a Petroleum Oil Lubricant Point and additional facilities at 29 Battalion, including a remodeled Quarter Guard and 10 CBQs.
At 16 Brigade, Bayelsa State, the COAS inaugurated the newly built Brigade Annex Complex, a garrison house, a remodeled 5 Battalion Quarter Guard and the Commanding Officer’s residence of 343 Artillery Regiment. He further flagged off the construction of 20 units of two-bedroom flats for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers at Elele Barracks and commissioned an electrification project executed by the NDDC. He also inspected the newly renovated Medical Reception Station at Wellington and Ibagwa Barracks in Akwa Ibom State.
As part of his visit, the COAS paid a courtesy call on the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, at Government House, Uyo. General Oluyede commended the state government for its consistent support to the Nigerian Army, stressing that the partnership has contributed to making Akwa Ibom one of the most peaceful states in the country.
Governor Eno, in his response, praised the Army’s efforts in sustaining peace and stability in the state, highlighting the effective collaboration with 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army. He assured continued government support to the Army in fulfilling its constitutional mandate.
The COAS also addressed troops at 29 Battalion Parade Ground, Port Harcourt and 6 Battalion Parade Ground, Ibagwa, Abak LGA, where he applauded their resilience in combating oil theft and pipeline vandalism. He reassured personnel of his unwavering commitment to their welfare in line with his “Soldier First” philosophy.
