The Cherubim and Seraphim Church (C& S), has commemorated its 100th anniversary with a week-long series of activities that drew participants from across Nigeria and abroad, underscoring the enduring influence of one of Africa’s most historic indigenous Christian movements.
The centenary celebration, held in Festac Town, Lagos, honored the legacy of the church’s founder, the late St. Moses Orimolade Tunolase Ajagunmokadi, who in 1925 established the C and S Church and served as its first Baba Aladura.
The festivities, which coincided with the annual General Conference of the Morning Star Church, commenced on Monday, September 8th, 2025, with a spirited Praise Night Musical Concert. On Tuesday, September 9th, exactly a century to the day of the church’s founding, the Seraphic 100 Years Anniversary was formally observed. The day’s highlights included the screening of a documentary tracing the establishment and global expansion of the church.
Throughout the week, a mix of spiritual, cultural and administrative events unfolded, including the General Conference sessions and the ordination of new members into higher ecclesiastical offices.
The climax came on Sunday, September 14th, with a colorful road parade that coursed through the Festac–Amuwo Odofin axis, setting a celebratory tone for the Thanksgiving Service. The main service, held at the Morning Star Cathedral on 402 Road, E-Close, brought together worshippers from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones as well as delegations from overseas. The liturgy featured vibrant thanksgiving, heartfelt prayers and a resonant message that reflected on the church’s century-long journey of faith.
The atmosphere was one of gratitude and triumph as members expressed joy at witnessing the milestone. The centenary, beyond celebrating a spiritual legacy, also highlighted the continued relevance of the C and S Church in Nigeria’s religious landscape and its growing international presence.
