The family of the late Chief Ogbuefi Clement Nwagbogu Ilobanafor (Esesuo Agbara I of Ozegu) has released details of his funeral ceremonies, marking the final farewell to one of Enugu State’s most respected community leaders. Chief Ilobanafor passed away on June 22nd, 2025, at the age of 93.

A figure of wisdom, integrity and service, Chief Ilobanafor was widely regarded as a unifying force in Ozegu, Enugwu-Inyi, Oji River Local Government Area. His leadership and commitment to peace and communal progress earned him enduring admiration across generations.

Since his passing, tributes have poured in from across Nigeria, reflecting the breadth of his influence and the affection he inspired. Messages of condolence have come from traditional institutions, professional associations and private citizens alike.

Notably, the Ywom Traditional Council, Garkawa District of Mikang LGA, Plateau State, under the leadership of His Royal Highness, AIG Bashir E. Makama Dabup III (psc+Rtd), the Mwo-Ywom of Garkawa, expressed deep sympathy to the Ilobanafor family. Others who paid tribute include Dr. Adedayo Olugbade Ajayi, Director General of the Afe Babalola International Study Centre (ABISC); Pharm. (Prof.) Lere Baale, CEO of Business School Netherlands and President of the Nigeria Academy of Pharmacy, alongside his wife, Mrs. Ife Baale and Pharm. Elechi Oyim, National Chairman of the Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists of Nigeria (AHAPN).

Venue: His Compound, Umueke Ozegu, Enugwu-Inyi, Oji River LGA, Enugu State
Time: 5:00 PM
The evening will feature reflections, tributes and shared memories celebrating the life of a man remembered for his humility and dedication to service.

Tuesday, January 6tj, 2026, Requiem Mass and Funeral Rites
Venue: Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Enugwu-Inyi Parish, Inyi Town, Oji River LGA, Enugu State
Time: 10:30 AM
The Requiem Mass will be followed by interment and a reception at his family compound, where relatives, friends and community members will gather to honor a life of enduring legacy and leadership.

Sunday, January 11th, 2026, Thanksgiving Mass
Venue: Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Enugwu-Inyi Parish, Inyi Town, Oji River LGA, Enugu State
Time: 9:00 AM
The Thanksgiving Mass will conclude the funeral rites, offering a moment of gratitude and reflection on Chief Ilobanafor’s faith and the values he instilled in his family and community.
