The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, made a strategic stop in Gusau, Zamfara State, where he met frontline troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA and reinforced the military’s commitment to stabilizing the North-West. The visit, his first operational tour to the area, served as both an assessment mission and a morale booster for personnel confronting persistent security threats in the region.
During the engagement, the Army chief commended the troops for their resilience and continued sacrifices amid complex operational pressures. He emphasized that the military high command remains sharply focused on addressing their welfare, equipment gaps and other operational concerns that shape frontline performance.
Before meeting the troops, the COAS received an extensive briefing from the Theatre Commander, outlining the security landscape, evolving threats and challenges faced by units on the ground. Inputs from land and air components as well as representatives of the Naval and Air Staff, were incorporated into the review, forming part of a renewed effort to streamline joint operations across services.
General Shaibu underscored that improving troop welfare, strengthening support systems and ensuring access to adequate resources remain core priorities for the Nigerian Army. He stressed that the conduct of troops, marked by discipline and professionalism, has contributed significantly to restoring confidence among residents of affected communities.
He also highlighted the importance of sustained inter-service coordination, describing the ongoing synergy as a crucial factor in the gradual recovery of security across the North-West. The Army leadership, he noted, is committed to refining operational effectiveness and enhancing the conditions under which personnel serve.
