NEWLY ELEVATED ARMY WARRANT OFFICERS URGED TO UPHOLD HIGHEST STANDARDS BY GOC 81 DIVISION

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, has called on newly promoted Army Warrant Officers (AWOs) and Master Warrant Officers (MWOs) of the Division to demonstrate exemplary leadership and fulfil the expectations of their elevated ranks.

In a statement released by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, the GOC delivered the charge during the decoration ceremony for the newly promoted senior personnel held on 25th November 2025 at the Division’s Headquarters Complex, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event followed the Nigerian Army’s recent promotion exercise approved and promulgated by the Department of Personnel Management, Army Headquarters.

According to the GOC, the beneficiaries earned their promotions through dedication, exceptional service and unwavering commitment to the ideals of the Nigerian Army. Major General Mijinyawa urged them to uphold discipline, loyalty and professionalism at all times, noting that their conduct must reflect the honour of the ranks they now wear.

He encouraged the newly promoted officers to build legacies that younger soldiers would aspire to emulate, stressing that leadership must be demonstrated through character, responsibility and mentorship. He also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu NAM, for approving a substantial number of promotion vacancies within the Division this year that saw two MWOs elevated go to AWOs and thirty-two Warrant Officers promoted to MWOs.

Major General Mijinyawa reminded the officers that higher ranks come with greater responsibilities and expectations. He urged them to recommit themselves to duty and deliver at the highest level, noting that the Nigerian Army expects renewed excellence from all newly elevated personnel.

He also emphasized the importance of mentorship, charging the officers to guide and develop junior soldiers to strengthen leadership structures within the Army.

Speaking on behalf of the newly promoted officers, AWO Aminu Yunusa expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff for the honour of elevation. He also thanked the GOC for his consistent support and guidance, assuring that the beneficiaries would repay the confidence reposed in them with increased hard work, dedication and loyalty.

The colourful ceremony attracted senior officers, commanders, staff officers, soldiers, families and friends of the beneficiaries. It featured words of wisdom from senior officers, moments of felicitation and a group photograph to crown the day’s celebration.
