Court Remands Singer Portable Over Alleged Assault, Theft in Ogun

An Ogun State High Court sitting in Ota has ordered the remand of controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, over allegations bordering on assault, theft and obstruction of police duties.
The artiste was arraigned on Monday before the court on a nine-count charge filed by the Ogun State Police Command, following an incident that allegedly occurred earlier this month.
Portable, who appeared visibly distressed during the proceedings, was charged with offences including stealing, assault, felony occasioning harm and resisting lawful arrest.
The prosecution alleged that the incident took place on January 1, 2026, at the singer’s Odogwu Bar located in the Iyana Ilogbo area of Ogun State.
According to the charge sheet, Portable allegedly attacked one of his wives, Ashabi Simple, alongside police officers and other individuals during a confrontation at the premises.
Among those said to have been assaulted are Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi and Ebuka Odah, with the prosecution alleging that one of the victims sustained serious injuries.
The court was told that Ileyemi Damilola allegedly suffered injuries inflicted with an axe during the incident, a claim that heightened the gravity of the charges against the singer.
Prosecutors further accused Portable of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 vehicle, valued at about ₦12 million, allegedly belonging to Ileyemi Damilola David.
The singer was also charged with allegedly obstructing and assaulting a female police officer, identified as W/Inspector Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was carrying out her official duties.
Although Ashabi Simple was not present in court, two of her siblings reportedly appeared as witnesses, claiming to have seen the alleged assault.
The prosecutor informed the court that the offences were punishable under Sections 516, 351, 383, 389 and 390 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
Portable’s legal team applied for bail on his behalf, urging the court to exercise leniency pending the determination of the case.
However, the presiding judge declined to grant bail, citing the absence of the assaulted police officer in court as a key reason for the decision.
The court ruled that the physical appearance of the police officer was necessary before the bail application could be properly considered.
Consequently, the court ordered that Portable be remanded in custody until January 19, 2026, when his bail application is expected to be heard and determined.
