In a move aimed at reinforcing maritime security across Nigeria’s eastern waters, the Headquarters of the Eastern Naval Command on Tuesday, 3rd February, 2026, formalized a strategic partnership with Seplat Energy Producing Nigeria Unlimited (SEPNU) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The agreement, designed to enhance the protection of critical maritime assets within the Eastern Naval Command’s Area of Responsibility, was signed by the Flag Officer Commanding the Command, Rear Admiral CD Okehie, on behalf of the Nigerian Navy. The SEPNU delegation was led by its General Manager for Security, Johnson Ogbum. The ceremony took place at the Command’s Conference Room and drew a strong presence of senior naval officers.
Among those in attendance were the Chief Staff Officer, Rear Admiral S. Ibrahim; the Command Operations Officer, Rear Admiral CE Oji; the outgoing and incoming Commanders of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) JUBILEE, Commodore MA Manga and Commodore AA Umar respectively; the Command Legal Officer, Captain T. I. Sagai; alongside other top-ranking officers.
Speaking at the event, Ogbum praised the Nigerian Navy for its’ consistent efforts in securing the maritime domain and safeguarding national economic interests. He described the partnership as critical to SEPNU’s sustainable operations and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting security initiatives in the region.
In his response, Rear Admiral Okehie assured SEPNU of the Navy’s continued support and readiness to expand cooperation to ensure a safer maritime environment. He noted that the partnership reflects a shared determination to counter maritime threats and promote stability across the Eastern Naval Command’s operational area.
The signing of the MoU marked the highlight of the engagement, which concluded with an exchange of souvenirs and group photographs to commemorate the milestone partnership.
