Barr. Chioma Uzodimma, Imo State First Lady and Chairperson of First Ladies Against Cancer (FLAC), has called for increased private sector investment in cancer care to address medical inequity in Nigeria. She made the appeal during a public health walk in Owerri to mark World Cancer Day 2026, themed “United by Unique”.
Uzodimma emphasized the need for unity against cancer, promoting early detection, prevention, and sustainable financing. The event drew thousands of stakeholders, including government officials, health professionals, and community leaders, who marched through Owerri streets with educational chants.
Speakers urged Nigerians to create awareness about cancer causes, diagnosis, and treatment, stressing that it’s curable when detected early. The event was supported by various organizations, including the Nigerian Cancer Society and Heart and Roses Cancer Advocacy Foundation.
