The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has launched a new Command Philosophy aimed at repositioning the Nigerian Army as a highly professional, agile, and combat-effective force.
The philosophy, unveiled during a lecture at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, emphasizes character, courage, and personnel welfare as key to effective leadership. It is built around five pillars: Professional Excellence, Robust Administration, Operational Readiness, Strategic Cooperation, and Exemplary Leadership (PROSE).
The COAS stressed that the Nigerian Army operates in a complex threat environment, requiring tactical proficiency, institutional strength, and innovation. He urged senior officers to internalize the philosophy and drive measurable impact across formations and units.
The PROSE-driven Command Philosophy marks a strategic shift, balancing internal security operations with force development, modernization, and institutional reform.
