The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a notorious drug kingpin, Reginald Peter Chidiebere, after 13 years in hiding. Chidiebere was wanted for shipping cocaine and heroin into Nigeria and had jumped bail in 2013.
He was arrested after NDLEA operatives intercepted large consignments of cocaine and heroin linked to him at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos. The agency had also seized his hotel and blocked his bank accounts in 2024.
In a related development, NDLEA operatives dismantled a clandestine laboratory in Imo state, recovering 18.4kg of methamphetamine, precursor chemicals, and production equipment.
Other arrests include a Togolese woman, Hadiza Musa, with 5,000 pills of tramadol, and several others with large quantities of skunk, codeine syrup, and other illicit substances.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), commended the officers involved in the operations, saying the agency remains resolute in dismantling criminal networks and bringing offenders to justice.
The agency also continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) social advocacy activities across the country, sensitizing students and staff of various schools on the dangers of drug abuse.
