Nigerian and Egyptian armies are taking their military cooperation to the next level to tackle emerging security threats. This was revealed by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, during a meeting with Egypt’s Defence Attaché to Nigeria, Colonel Mohammed Ibrahim, at Army Headquarters in Abuja.
The COAS highlighted the longstanding military relationship between Nigeria and Egypt, saying it’s a key platform for enhancing operational capability and professional development. Several Nigerian Army officers have benefited from advanced training in Egypt, boosting the force’s competence.
The Nigerian Army is ready to expand training opportunities to equip personnel with skills to counter complex security threats. The COAS invited the Egyptian Army to participate in the Nigerian Army Day Celebration in July 2026 and stressed the need for collaboration in aviation capabilities and operational support systems.
Colonel Ibrahim said his visit aimed to review the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2024. Progress has been made, especially in training cooperation, and preparations are ongoing for the next Military Committee Meeting in Cairo.
Egypt is committed to strengthening military collaboration with Nigeria to address security challenges.
