The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made several significant arrests and seizures across Nigeria, including the apprehension of a 74-year-old grandpa, Ikwuakalom Nwakoro Emeka, at Abuja airport with 11kg of cocaine hidden in balloons.
Emeka, who claimed to be travelling to London for vacation, was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport while attempting to board a British Airways flight. The cocaine was concealed in food items, including ground dry pepper, wrapped in foil papers and balloons.
In Lagos, NDLEA operatives arrested suspects and recovered large consignments of opioids, including 68,000 pills of tramadol and 225mg, and 339,800 bottles of codeine-based syrup at Apapa seaport. Other arrests were made in Edo, Kano, and Abuja, with seizures including skunk, pentazocine injection, and cannabis.
The NDLEA chairman praised officers for their efforts in drug supply reduction and demand reduction.
