The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted several consignments of illicit drugs at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, and other parts of the country.
In Lagos, two suspects, Friday Ehianuka and Christian Agbonhese, were arrested at the airport with 2,698 pills of tramadol and 28,470 pills of tramadol and tapentadol, respectively. The drugs were concealed in body cream containers and winter jackets.
At a courier firm in Lagos, NDLEA operatives intercepted 1kg of cannabis and 158g of methamphetamine hidden in a carton.
In other states, large consignments of illicit drugs were seized, including 102.5kg of skunk in Kano, 21,737 bottles of codeine-based syrup in Lagos, and 97.5kg of skunk in Edo.
In Abuja, 91,840 pills of tramadol were recovered from a commercial bus, while in Oyo, 71.2kg of skunk was seized.
The NDLEA also arrested several suspects in connection with the seizures, including a suspect who was conveying 77,660 capsules of tramadol to Gombe.
The Agency’s Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended the officers involved in the operations and urged them to continue the balanced approach to drug control efforts.
The NDLEA also conducted sensitization activities in schools and communities as part of its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative.
