The activities marking the 2026 National Police Day gathered momentum on the second day at Sango Ota, Ogun State, as the Area Command staged a vibrant walkathon aimed at reinforcing unity, peace and community partnership.
Led by the Area Commander of the Sango Ota Area Command, ACP Shola Oladele, the walkathon brought together a cross-section of society including children, traders, stakeholders and residents. The symbolic exercise underscored a shared commitment to building safer communities through collaboration and mutual trust between the police and the public.
Participants described the event as both engaging and reassuring, noting that it provided an opportunity to interact directly with officers outside formal settings. Many residents expressed positive sentiments about the Nigeria Police Force, particularly highlighting improved responsiveness and visibility in the Ota axis.
Speaking on behalf of Divisional Police Officers within the command, the Divisional Police Officer of Itele Division commended the initiative and the impressive turnout. He noted that the strong participation reflected a growing confidence in the police and a testament to the cordial and balanced relationship being fostered with the community.
Community leaders also lent their voices to the significance of the exercise. Prince Adeyemi Sulaimon Olusesi, Principal Secretary to the Olota of Ota, Oba Professor Adeyemi Abdulkadir Obalanlege, acknowledged noticeable improvements in safety, security and trust within the area.
Similarly, Asiwaju Tunde Abioye, Vice Chairman of the APC in the community, emphasized that the relationship between residents and the police has significantly improved, with increased trust defining recent engagements.
Adding a youth perspective, Kazeem Olatunde, President of the Sango Ota Youth Council, reaffirmed the group’s cooperation with the police, expressing confidence in their effectiveness and dedication to maintaining law and order.
The walkathon stands as a powerful reflection of the National Police Day theme centered on community partnership, demonstrating that sustained engagement and shared responsibility remain key to achieving lasting peace and security.
