The opening days of the 2026 National Police Week in Igboora, Oyo State, were marked by a deliberate shift toward community-centered policing that emphasizes visibility, trust and shared responsibility.
On 30th March, officers under the leadership of the Area Commander, ACP Ruth Tomisin Omoboriowo-Otolorin, led a sanitation and cleaning exercise at Oja Oba market, a bustling commercial hub within the Eruwa Area Command. The effort brought together traders, residents and police personnel in a coordinated sweep aimed at improving environmental conditions while signaling a broader commitment to civic partnership.
The choice of a market for the first day’s activity was hardly incidental. Markets such as Oja Oba serve as economic lifelines and social meeting points, but they are also spaces where tensions can surface and public order is frequently tested. By prioritizing sanitation in such a setting, the police framed safety not merely as enforcement, but as a shared civic duty rooted in everyday interactions.
