The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students has pledged full support for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s fight against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking. NANS National President, Comrade Sola Oladoja, made the commitment on Tuesday, 21 April 2026, during a courtesy visit to NDLEA Chairman/CEO Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja. The students’ body also reaffirmed its backing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and his re-election in 2027.
Oladoja commended Marwa for his dynamic leadership and the NDLEA’s successes against drug cartels, particularly praising the War Against Drug Abuse social advocacy initiative for raising awareness across tertiary institutions. He said NANS’ support for the current administration is based on tangible pro-youth gains, including student loans, resolution of strikes in tertiary institutions, and youth empowerment schemes. Marwa, in response, expressed pride in Nigerian students and welcomed their support, noting that their appreciation of the Renewed Hope Agenda and commitment to Tinubu’s re-election “gladdens my heart.”
Addressing drug prevalence on campuses, Marwa stressed the need for collaboration to rid schools of abuse due to its impact on students’ health, aspirations, families, and society. He explained that the recently introduced Federal Government Drug Integrity Test Policy for students is protective, not punitive, as early detection makes treatment and rehabilitation more effective. Both parties ended the visit with a mutual commitment to deepen NDLEA–NANS partnership in the crusade against substance abuse on Nigerian campuses.
