The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), Lagos State Command stepped up sensitization efforts in schools following reports of students displaying cult-related signs during an end-of-term event in Mushin. On Wednesday, about 1,000 students from four secondary schools in District VI gathered for an awareness session focused on the dangers of cultism, violence, and negative peer influence.
The programme brought together students from Idi-Araba Senior and Junior Secondary Schools and Mushin Community Senior and Junior Secondary Schools. Officials urged the students to resist peer pressure and stay committed to education. Permanent Secretary of District VI, Mrs. Yussuf Christianah, and Itire DPO CSP Adeniran John encouraged discipline, goal-setting, and responsible choices, stressing that background should not limit future success.
Lagos POCACOV Coordinator SP Olivia Ugochukwu warned that harmful group involvement often starts with small decisions and urged students not to let their current circumstances define them. She also appealed to teachers and school administrators to pair discipline with mentorship rather than stigmatizing students. Organizers said the engagement forms part of broader efforts to prevent cultism and youth-related violence in Lagos schools.
