The Lagos State Police Command has inaugurated a new tactical unit, the ‘Command Sweepers Squad’, to address rising criminal activity in Ikorodu. The move follows public outcry from residents over insecurity in parts of the axis. Commissioner of Police CP Tijani Fatai said the squad is a temporary intervention force set up to restore public confidence and curb crime in Ikorodu and surrounding communities.
The squad draws personnel from the Command’s Tactical Teams, Rapid Response Squad, Eko Strike Force, and three Police Mobile Force units, as well as other security agencies and the Civilian Joint Task Force. Based in Ijede for quick deployment, it is equipped with patrol vehicles and three Armoured Personnel Carriers provided by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund. Officers have been assigned to target known black spots and criminal hideouts through intelligence-led raids, stop-and-search operations, and visibility patrols.
