Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Olohundare Jimoh, has been honoured as the most outstanding anti-crime police chief in West and Central Africa for 2025. The award was presented by the Security Watch Africa Initiative Network at the 19th African Security Watch Awards in Banjul, The Gambia, in recognition of the crime prevention strategies he introduced while serving as Commissioner of Police in Lagos State. Due to official engagements, Jimoh was not at the Gambia ceremony. The award was later delivered to him in Lagos by the organization’s International Coordinator, Patrick Agbambu, and National Coordinator, Elizabeth Ndanku.
While receiving the award, AIG Jimoh said the recognition reflected the collective effort of officers who served under him in Lagos. He pointed to the Eko Strike Force, which expanded from 2 to over 18 patrol vehicles and worked alongside the Rapid Response Squad to ensure swift interventions. He also credited community partnership, describing Lagosians as proactive in supporting policing. Jimoh further noted the peaceful conduct of local government elections across 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs during his tenure, with no ballot box snatched and no voter attacked.
Agbambu described Jimoh as a disciplined officer who has served in several key roles, including Force Public Relations Officer and Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Command. He said the award recognized visible improvements in crime prevention and stronger police-community relations under Jimoh’s leadership in Lagos. The AIG reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s duty to protect lives and property, and pledged to sustain efforts at crime prevention in his current role.
