The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted two consignments of cocaine concealed for export through a logistics firm in Lagos. On Thursday, 30 July 2026, officers of the Directorate of Operation and General Investigations (DOGI) recovered 250grams of cocaine factory-fitted into the base of a local mortar heading to China, and 500grams hidden in the false bottom of a backpack en route to Italy.
In separate state raids, NDLEA operatives in Rivers arrested 38-year-old notorious dealer Ugo Gift Okonkwo at Eagle Island, Port Harcourt on Sunday, 26 July, with cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine, swinol, tramadol and codeine syrup. In Anambra, a truck carrying 26,000 bottles of codeine syrup weighing 3,960kg was stopped at DMGS roundabout, Onitsha on Monday, 27 July, and driver Chinedu Nwanze, 40, was taken into custody. Other busts include 331.84kg of skunk recovered from a Toyota Sienna on the Kwale/Ughelli expressway in Delta on 26 July; 68kg of skunk and 29grams of methamphetamine seized from 64-year-old Joseph Nwaeke in Karu, Nasarawa on 28 July; and 7,400 pills of tramadol 225mg intercepted from suspected bandits’ supplier Sani Umar, 27, along the Zaria-Gusau highway in Zamfara on 27 July.
The Agency also intensified its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy last week with sensitization lectures at Hausawa Special Primary School in Kano, Royal Crown School in Ibadan, Government Secondary School in Ibi, Taraba, and for drivers at Challenge Bus Terminal Park, Ibadan. NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), commended DOGI and the Rivers, Anambra, Delta, Nasarawa and Zamfara Commands, and urged officers nationwide to maintain the Agency’s balanced approach to drug supply reduction and demand reduction.
