Lagos State Government on Tuesday honoured 506 officers of the Unified Local Government Service for dedication and over three decades of service at the 2026 Long Service Merit Award Ceremony in Alausa, Ikeja. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, said the recognition reflects a culture where excellence is rewarded and every officer’s work directly impacts residents.
Speaking at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Sanwo-Olu commended the awardees for their perseverance, professionalism and service through changes in leadership, technology and communities. He described the Unified Local Government Service as critical to grassroots delivery across the state’s 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs, and called for a stronger, more digitally equipped workforce to meet rising demand. The Governor added that government will continue investing in workforce development, including training programmes and a planned e-library, and urged senior officers to mentor younger colleagues to transfer knowledge and uphold integrity, discipline and accountability.
Head of Service, Bode Agoro, said sustaining the award shows the administration’s commitment to rewarding selfless service, and urged officers to embrace continuous learning and leverage the Ilera Eko health policy. Permanent Secretary, Office of Local Government Establishments and Training, Ms. Toyin Ogunlana, noted that the honourees remained steadfast through reforms while mentoring the next generation. She added that values of diligence, accountability and excellence remain central to an effective public service as Lagos builds a workforce fit for the future.
