ABUJA — The President of the Police Officers Wives Association, Chief Mrs Mutiat Olufunmilola Disu, has led a tree-planting exercise as part of the Nigeria Police Force International Youth Day 2026 – National Youth Leadership and Security Initiative. Fifty seedlings donated by the Federal Ministry of Environment were planted under the campaign message “PLANT PEACE. GROW NIGERIA. SECURE THE FUTURE.” Mrs Disu said the exercise went beyond environmental action, describing each seedling as a symbol of hope and a promise to Nigerian children and youths. She drew a parallel between nurturing trees and nurturing young people, stressing that every youth is a seed of possibility that must be protected and given the right environment to flourish.
The POWA President emphasized that securing the future of Nigerian youths requires more than preventing crime — it also means creating a healthy, sustainable environment for them to live and grow. “We cannot ask them to protect Nigeria while destroying the environment they will inherit,” she stated. She appreciated the Federal Ministry of Environment for the donation and commended wives of senior Police officers who joined the exercise, including wives of DIGs Achinyan, Isyaku, Fayoade, Nadada and wives of AIGs and CPs. Their participation, she said, shows the Police family’s commitment to both security today and the Nigeria that future generations will inherit.
Delivering a message to Nigerian youths, Mrs Disu urged them not to allow themselves to be used for violence or political interests. She said their future is greater than political and digital thuggery, and challenged them to channel energy into education, innovation, entrepreneurship, leadership and peacebuilding. “Peace, like a tree, must be nurtured,” she added, calling on parents to raise children who understand that strength is not violence and leadership is not intimidation. “Let us plant today — not only for ourselves, but for the Nigerian child who will ask years from now, ‘Who planted this tree?’” she concluded.
