*ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE — Thursday, September 17, 2026:* The nationwide flag-off of the *Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Safe School Club Initiative* has commenced in Ogun State with a major sensitization programme that brought together senior police officers, PCRC leaders, education stakeholders and more than 3,000 students at Nawair Ud Deen Grammar School, Obantoko, Abeokuta.
The initiative, designed to promote safer schools, responsible citizenship, security consciousness and positive values among young people, was officially flagged off in Ogun State by the *Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR,* who was represented at the ceremony by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration and Finance, *ACP Olu-Moore Akinmoladun.*
The *PCRC Ogun State Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Babatunde Lawal,* led members of the Ogun State Safe School Club and other PCRC executives to the historic event.
The Safe School Club initiative was birthed from the vision of the *Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu,* and subsequently handed over to the PCRC under the leadership of its *National Chairman, Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan,* for nationwide implementation.
Representing the National Chairman at the Ogun State flag-off was the *PCRC Zone 2 Chairman, Ven. Samson Kunle Popoola.*
*SAFE SCHOOL MEMBERS BEGIN WORK BEFORE SUNRISE*
Demonstrating that the Safe School Club is built around practical community service and not merely ceremonial activities, members arrived at the school before *7:00 a.m.* to assist with traffic management and student safety.
Led by the *Ogun State Coordinator of the PCRC Safe School Club Initiative, Pastor Olanrewaju Joshua,* members helped control the vehicular movement along the busy Obantoko Road, assisting students to cross safely.
The traffic-control operation continued until about *8:00 a.m.,* after which the members proceeded to the school assembly to address the students.
*STUDENTS RECEIVE STRONG MESSAGES ON DRUGS, CULTISM AND RESPONSIBLE LIVING*
The sensitization session featured a series of presentations focused on issues affecting the safety, education and future of young people.
The students were encouraged to pursue academic excellence, avoid drug abuse and cultism, reject negative peer pressure and bad influences, develop positive aspirations and remain security-conscious.
Speakers also emphasised the importance of discipline, good character, responsible friendship, respect for constituted authority and making choices that would protect the students’ future.
Addressing the students were *ACP Olu-Moore Akinmoladun,* representing the Commissioner of Police, *Ven. Samson Kunle Popoola,* representing the PCRC National Chairman, *Hon. Taiwo Akinlabi,* Chief of Staff to the PCRC National Chairman, *ASP Oluborode Opeyemi,* Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command and State Coordinator of POCACOV, and *Pastor Olanrewaju Joshua,* Ogun State Coordinator of the PCRC Safe School Club Initiative.
*A HISTORIC SCHOOL CONNECTION*
The choice of Nawair Ud Deen Grammar School for the flag-off also carried a special significance.
The school is the alma mater of *Hon. Taiwo Akinlabi,* Chief of Staff to the PCRC National Chairman, who attended the ceremony in full school uniform in a symbolic demonstration of his connection with the institution and the importance of giving back to the next generation.
The principals of both institutions, *Mr Olagesin Mohammed Akorede,* Principal of Nawair Ud Deen Junior Grammar School, and *Mr Alabi Isikilu Adisa,* Principal of the Senior Grammar School, were also present. The Parents Teachers Association (P.T.A) Chairman of the Nawair Ud Deen Junior Grammar School *Mr. Monsuru Bamigbose* was also present.
*STRONG POLICE AND COMMUNITY REPRESENTATION*
The event attracted a broad representation of police and community leadership.
Among those present were *Alhaja Balikisi Ibrahim Olaniyan,* wife of the PCRC National Chairman and a Director in the Ogun State Ministry of Lands; *Comrade Olurotimi Abatan,* PCRC National Treasurer of the Youth Committee; *Evangelist Ajibola Jegede,* Sagamu Area Command Chairman and *Comrade Tesleem Alaka,* Owode Egba Divisional Chairman and *many other PCRC leaders* at different levels.
Senior police officers at the event included *ACP Oni Omololu,* Adatan Area Commander, and *CSP Akindipe Michael Johnson,* Divisional Police Officer, Obantoko Division, alongside *several other police officers.*
The So-Safe Corps also supported the initiative, with the Obantoko Divisional Officer, *CSC Ogunnoiki Kolade,* leading officers of the corps to the ceremony.
*A NEW CHAPTER IN SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY SAFETY*
The impressive turnout of senior police officers, PCRC leadership, education stakeholders, community leaders and thousands of students underscored the growing importance of collaborative approaches to school safety.
The Ogun State flag-off represents another step toward building a generation of young Nigerians who are security-conscious, disciplined, academically focused and equipped to make responsible choices.
The PCRC Safe School Club Initiative is expected to strengthen cooperation among *schools, parents, communities, the police and other relevant stakeholders,* while creating a platform through which young people can be educated on safety, crime prevention and responsible citizenship.
For Ogun State, the message from Obantoko was clear: *school safety is a shared responsibility, and protecting the future begins with protecting the children today.*
