The NDLEA has busted a Nigerian-Mexican methamphetamine cartel operating a secret laboratory in Eziama community, Obeagu, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Two leaders of the syndicate, Chukwu Obumneme Christopher (45) alias Brown and Chukwu Georginus Monday (60) alias George, were arrested after surveillance between December 1 and 4, 2025, and have been docked before Justice Mabel Taiye Segun-Bello of the Federal High Court, Enugu, on charges of conspiracy and running a drug trafficking organisation. Three others, including Mexican cartel member Rodriguez Villanueva, are on the run, with trial set for October 21, 2026.
The Agency recovered large volumes of precursor chemicals and lab equipment, including methylamine, isopropyl alcohol, ephedrine, reactors and gas burners. NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), said the bust is proof that transnational drug networks will find no space to operate in Nigeria.
