Retired Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs, Dera Nnadi (rtd) mni, has charged members of Course 1/91 of the Nigeria Customs Service who retired on September 24, 2026, after 35 years of service, to turn their institutional experience into mentorship and legacy.
Speaking from experience six months after his own retirement, Nnadi said retirement should not be seen as the end of relevance but as a new chapter where experience becomes wisdom and service becomes legacy. He urged the retirees to remain lifelong ambassadors of the Service and to deliberately guide younger officers to close the knowledge gap created by generational transition.
Nnadi also advised his former colleagues to prioritise their health, family and spiritual life, avoid isolation, and shift focus from occupying positions to creating impact, noting that survival through 35 years of service calls for gratitude and continued service to society in new ways.
