The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has re-arrested 83-year-old Uloma Uchechi Sunday for drug trafficking, barely a year after her conviction. She was picked up on October 7, 2026, at her residence in Ite-Uzo, Umuaguma, Obingwa LGA, Abia State, with wraps of methamphetamine and Colorado tied around her waist. The NDLEA said she had resumed operating a drug joint after she and her 32-year-old daughter, Chisom, were arrested in May 2025 with meth, skunk and tramadol, sentenced to 12 months imprisonment and later released on a N200,000 fine.

The Agency also recorded major seizures at airports and across states. At Port Harcourt Airport, a South African woman, Gebashe Sithandiwe Jessie, was arrested with 32.74kg of Thai Loud cannabis imported from Thailand via Qatar Airways. At Lagos MMIA, officers intercepted 354,000 tablets of Tapentadol weighing 307.2kg from Pakistan and 75.9kg of Colorado from the UK, arresting four suspects including a clearing agent and an Uber driver. Raids in Cross River, Edo, Ondo, Taraba, Kano, Kaduna and Plateau led to seizures of over 3,000kg of cannabis, 191,190 tramadol pills, and rifles and ammunition from a suspect in Jos.

Chairman of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd), praised officers for the intelligence-led operations and charged them to sustain the balanced offensive against drug trafficking and abuse nationwide.
