Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, says Africa must bridge its technology scaling gap to translate innovations into widespread impact.

Speaking at the 5th TeXcellence conference at Landmark Centre, Lagos on Tuesday, Hamzat said the continent is rich in ideas but poor in systems to scale them. “Government must build the systems that allow African ideas to grow, endure and deliver meaningful impact at scale,” he said in his address titled “The Enabling State.”

He listed Lagos investments including 3,000km fibre laid, $22m for 6,000km unified network, 6.4m residents ID enrollment and ₦1bn LASRIC grants for 80 researchers and 75 startups, with plans for an innovation law. CWG boss Adewale Adeyipo called for investment in local AI infrastructure and digital sovereignty.
