The Ogun State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to girl-child protection and youth development with a sensitisation outreach to Abeokuta Girls’ Grammar School and Baptist Girls’ College, Idi-Aba.
The programme, organised through the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) to commemorate the 2026 International Day of the Girl Child, was led by State Coordinator ASP Opeyemi Oluborode under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni.
Speaking on the theme “Breaking Boundaries: Shaping the Future of the Girl Child” and in line with the global theme “End Child Marriage & Invest in Girls’ Rights,” Oluborode enlightened students on women’s rights, gender equality, and protection against child marriage, discrimination and abuse, citing provisions of the Child Rights Act.
He urged the girls not to allow gender to limit their ambitions, stressing education, discipline and determination, while warning against cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime and negative peer pressure.
The students pledged to shun vices, resist child marriage and focus on academic excellence. Principals of both schools commended the Command, with Baptist Girls’ College Principal Mrs Osunbara and AGGS Vice Principal Mrs A. Akeweje lauding CP Ojajuni’s proactive engagement.
CP Ojajuni said safeguarding children is central to crime prevention and urged parents, educators and community leaders to remain vigilant and report abuse, assuring sustained sensitisation and partnerships to protect vulnerable persons across the state.
