The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 52-year-old man, Tomswell Feyi, for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos State.
It was gathered that the suspect, who lives on the same street as the victim on Aiyetoro Street, Ebute Metta, sexually assaulted her in his room.
The mother of the victim reported the incident at the Yaba Police Division.
Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Mr. Fatai Tijani, directed that the case be transferred from Yaba Division to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, for discreet investigation.
According to a police source, the complainant reported that her daughter was sent by her father on an errand to buy bread at about 9:00 p.m. on October 15.
“The mother became worried when the girl’s whereabouts remained unknown about 20 minutes after she left home. The woman subsequently encountered the suspect and asked whether he had seen her daughter. The suspect claimed that he had sent the girl on an errand,” the source said.
The source added that the mother searched the suspect’s room and found her daughter inside, crying.
“She discovered that the child was bleeding from her vaginal area and immediately took her away,” he said.
The victim is currently undergoing medical care in a government hospital as a result of the bleeding and traumatic experience, while the suspect remains in police custody.
Detectives attached to the Gender Unit of the State CID, Panti, are investigating the case, and the suspect has been properly profiled and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.
