Hon Samaila Tadawus, the newly appointed chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, took office on Saturday, promising to provide selfless service because leadership should not be bought.
Tadawus, who arrived at the APC state secretariat in Jimeta to a rousing welcome from other party executives and members, made an apparent reference to the party’s immediate past chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Bilal, whose resignation was made public on Friday.
Bilal had received a vote of no confidence earlier this month from members of his EXCO, who accused him of corruption, including collecting money from aspirants with the promise of getting them tickets to the party’s recent primaries.

The APC state EXCO, after their no-confidence vote on Bilal, had named Samaila Tadawus, who was the state deputy chairman, as the one to replace Bilal, who had rejected his sack and went to court to challenge it.

Tadawus officially took over on Saturday with a pledge to deal decisively with indiscipline and corruption.
“I’m now the legitimate chairman of the party after my position has been ratified by the national secretariat. So I’m assuming leadership of our great party in acting capacity,” Tadawus said.
Reiterating that he would be departing from the acts his predecessor was accused of, Tadawus said, “I wish to assure you that I will run this party with a deep sense of commitment, passion, and fear of God, knowing fully that these attributes are what the party desperately needs now.
“I urge all our party comrades to put the events of the past weeks behind and come together as one indivisible party to confront the daunting task of sending the PDP out of the Government House come 2023,” he said.

“I want to restate that the era of cash and carry in the party is over. Gone is the era when our party will be mortgaged to highest bidders.”
