Youths in the country’s south west have stated that they will be assisting students across the country in pressing their demands in response to the Academic Staff Union of Universities’, ASUU, lingering strike.
On Sunday, the Oodua Youth Coalition, OYC, threw its support behind the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, resolution to halt activities in airports across the country.
The NANS leadership decided on Saturday in Akure, Ondo State’s capital, to disrupt airspace beginning Monday, September 19, 2022.
The president of the group, Oluyi Tayo, stated in a statement made available that the seven-month-old strike had affected over 5,000 members of the group.
Oluyi believes that all OYC members should join the protests in their respective states, emphasising that education should be a right, not a privilege.

“The inconsiderate dispositions of the parties involved have left the fate of many Nigerian students hanging in the balance as a result of the industrial action.”
“We, the Oodua Youth Coalition, a socio-cultural youth group with over 5,000 members affected by the lingering industrial action, declare our complete support for NANS leadership on the proposed airspace closure tomorrow.”
“We enjoin our members to join the protest in their respective states from tomorrow. Education should be a right and not a privilege, we must fight to own what is ours.”
