The All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in Adamawa State has disregarded the Friday court decision that nullified the election of its candidate for governor and ruled that the party could not nominate anyone to run in the governor’s race in 2023.
The Federal High Court’s Yola Division ruled that the APC lacked a legitimately elected candidate for the state’s governorship race in 2023 after invalidating the APC primary election in Adamawa that saw Senator Aishatu Ahmed Binani win the nomination.
After a meeting on Saturday afternoon, the APC leadership in Adamawa State held a news conference where it stated that it disagreed with the judge’s decision to not order a new primary election.

“We, the state working committee, the state executives, and local government chairmen of the APC, Adamawa State chapter, received the court verdict on our governorship primary with mixed feelings,” Dr. Raymond Chidama, the party’s state secretary, read out to reporters at the APC Secretariat in Yola.
“We thank the court for bringing to our attention the flaws that, if fixed, could lead to future issues, but we, the party, completely reject the court’s rejection to order a new primary election so that we can run a candidate for the governorship race in 2023.
“As a result, we will visit the Court of Appeal right away to present our case.”
“We want to assure our party members that we are going to participate in the 2023 governorship election and we shall take over control of Adamawa State,” the APC scribe insisted that the party would do everything that is legally possible to field a candidate.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will comply with whatever the appeal court would order, the APC state secretary said, regardless of an indicated timeframe towards the elections. This statement came after newsmen pointed out that the party is already behind the timelines prescribed by INEC as guided by the nation’s Electoral Act.

He said that any other provisions may have been created by any other statutes are superseded by the constitutional provision in Section 6 subsection 6 authorising the court to decide on election problems.
