Nigerian Air Force (NAF) hosted an open day as part of its 61st anniversary celebrations, showcasing its capabilities and engaging with the public.

The event featured aircraft displays, exhibits, and a students tour of NAF section at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, allowing the public to interact with the Air Force and witness its strengths.

The Open Day was held across various NAF formations and units nationwide, with events taking place at the NAF base, Airport Road in Abuja.

Addressing families and students at the Officers Mess before the tour, Commander 307 Executive Air Lift Group, Abuja, Air Commodore Muhammad Buba Ahmed appreciated Nigerians for being there for its Air Force.

The events were designed to foster a sense of community pride and connection between the public and the NAF, showcasing the human side of the Air Force.

According to Air Commodore Ahmed, “The Air force is owned by Nigerians. Under me, I have seven Airplanes, including some Helicopters. It is a good thing that we are having civilians visit the base to see what the Air Force does.

“As the Air Force is to us, that is what the forcebis to you. It is tax payers money they use to acquire the airplanes, it is tax payers money they use to pay our salaries, so we appreciate you all.

“That is why the Chief of Air Staff decided that we bring you in so that you can see what your money is being used for. We are happy to have you here. We have people at the airport waiting to explain to you what the Jets are for.”

The open day aimed to promote NAF’s achievements, foster national unity and engage with the public.

Military restrictions were relaxed during the event as some of the students and families were allowed to take pictures with the war Jets.
