A tragic incident unfolded in the Imota axis of Ikorodu, Lagos State, on 16th November 2025, when a soldier deployed for internal security duties lost his life after being violently attacked by a mentally unstable individual.
In a statement released by the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, the Army confirmed that the soldier had been attempting to calm a chaotic situation when he was suddenly struck on the head with a heavy log. Fellow soldiers on duty quickly subdued the attacker, recovered the soldier’s weapon and evacuated the victim to Ikorodu General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The fallen soldier, who served under the 81 Division Nigerian Army, was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites, with the Acting Commanding Officer and other officers from his unit present at the burial. The Division has expressed deep condolences to his family, colleagues and loved ones, praising his dedication to national service.
The Nigerian Army has opened a formal investigation into the incident and is urging the public to remain vigilant, report unusual behaviours promptly and allow the inquiry to proceed without interference.
