Before ending its eight-month protest, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has set a requirement that President Muhammadu Buhari must meet.
The Federal Government has been enforcing the no-work, no-pay rule ever since the Union’s strike got underway eight months ago, and the Union asked that the President revoke it.
According to information that was sent to us by an online site, the president’s choice will be crucial in determining whether the union decides to end the strike or not.

Further information revealed that the President alone has the authority to waive payment of the arrears owed to the striking lecturers.
“The issue of the no-work-no-pay has not been resolved yet. We are still waiting for Mr President,” a source, who does not want his name in print said.
Another source said: “It is only the President who can give that waiver at the moment. He has to forgive them. He is very hurt that they caused a delay for students.”
Meanwhile, branches of ASUU were to begin consultations today, October 22 over the possibility of calling off the strike. The union’s National Executive Council will also meet on the matter tomorrow, October 13.
Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, the national president of ASUU, confirmed the news and announced that a meeting of the union would take place.
The time and location of the encounter, however, were kept a secret by him.
Osodeke only stated, “Yes, we will meet and make our decision.

ASUU had gone on strike on Monday, February 14, 2022, in protest of what it saw as the government’s refusal to grant its demands.
After what he described as “failed negotiations,” the Minister of Labor and Employment, Chris Ngige, brought the lecturers on strike before the National Industrial Court.
On September 21, the court ordered ASUU to end the strike.
Last week, the Court of Appeal issued a related ruling.
