The inaugural Braveessence Award, held at the prestigious Radisson Hotel, Lagos, celebrated the strength, resilience, and achievements of women often overlooked in mainstream recognition. Organized by the Talkative Duo Series and chaired by Obiamaka Alumona Nweke, the event provided a platform to honor women who excel in various capacities yet remain unsung heroes.
Speaking at the event, Nweke emphasized the essence of the award, stating that they were inspired by a woman’s passion for supporting her fellow women.
She highlighted the importance of recognizing women who often go uncredited for their extraordinary efforts, adding that the pains and joys of womanhood deserve more than applause and merit celebration.
Nweke also commended the government for its increased inclusivity towards women and urged men to play a more active role in uplifting women through open communication and support. In a message to women, she encouraged them to believe in themselves regardless of their circumstances.
Among the award recipients was Anthonia Ojenagbon, a prominent women’s rights advocate recognized for her significant contributions to supporting victims of sexual and gender-based violence. In her acceptance speech, Ojenagbon dedicated her award to survivors of gender-based violence and all women who have risen above personal and societal challenges. She declared that the award was for the survivors of Rights abuse who had come forward to speak or were still coming out to make their voices heard.
Other honoree used the occasion to inspire women to remain resolute, pursue excellence, and remain brave in the face of life’s challenges.
The Braveessence Awards successfully showcased the incredible feats of women who, despite facing adversities, continue to make meaningful impacts in their communities.
