Abdul Samad Rabiu, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and creator of the BUA Group, has received the coveted Nigerian National Honour of Commander of the Federal Republic as well as the Nigeria Excellence Award in Public Service (NEAPS) from TBS.
Abdul Samad Rabiu recently received these awards from President Muhammadu Buhari on two separate occasions for his outstanding generosity and contributions in the Nigerian tertiary education industry.
Abdul Samad Rabiu is the only member of the private sector to be honoured by President Buhari at the Excellence in Public Service Awards, which were held on Friday in Abuja alongside 43 other notable Nigerians from the public sector. President Buhari presented the CFR Award to 53 other Nigerians.
As he accepted the award on behalf of Abdul Samad Rabiu, President Buhari said: “I want to especially recognise Abdul Samad Rabiu, the Chairman of BUA International Limited, for his interventions in education through the BUA Foundation, the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), and his other philanthropic initiatives.
“This initiative provides $100 million annually from the ASR Africa Fund for Social Development and Renewal to tertiary educational institutions in Nigeria. I’m glad that five universities have benefited so far, and there will be many more,” he remarked.

President Buhari advised executives in both the public and commercial sectors to always strive to leave a lasting legacy in order to be more cognizant of their roles as “trustees of the people.”
He stated, “I hope that leaders will rise up and take their places among those leaders who have distinguished themselves by doing the right thing and leaving their imprints on the sands of time.
The president also exhorted public employees to uphold integrity and accountability as their guiding principles.
“This award is acknowledgment of the enormous contributions you all have made to the transformation of Nigeria and you have constantly prioritised hard work and devotion in your endeavours,” the statement reads.
In his remarks regarding the national honour and excellence in public service award, Abdul Samad Rabiu thanked President Buhari and all Nigerians for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to sustainable development and impact initiatives through his businesses and philanthropy that will be advantageous to all Nigerians.
