The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to professional excellence with a sensitization lecture on Career Planning and Prospects for officers under the 81 Division Area of Responsibility. The session, held on 11th September 2025 at the 81 Division Officers’ Mess, Outer Marina, Victoria Island, Lagos, was organized by the Department of Military Secretary (Army).
In a statement released by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, the lecture was designed to equip officers with vital knowledge on structured career growth, performance evaluation and opportunities for advancement within the Army. He noted that the initiative reflects the Army’s continuous investment in developing its personnel to meet evolving operational and leadership demands.
Welcoming participants, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, stressed the importance of career planning and management in fostering professionalism across the ranks. He urged officers to seize the opportunity to broaden their understanding of career pathways and challenges within the Army.
Delivering the lecture, the Military Secretary (Army), Major General Everest Okoro, outlined key elements of career development including career reviews, performance appraisals, promotions, postings and professional training. The session also featured an interactive segment where officers engaged in robust discussions and sought expert guidance from the Military Secretary.
The event drew senior officers, commanders and staff from Army formations, schools and establishments across Lagos, further underlining the Nigerian Army’s drive to institutionalize career development as a pillar of organizational growth and operational readiness.
