Ibadan—Oladotun Wahab, a 27-year-old man, was yesterday given a jail remand order for allegedly raping a 70-year-old woman in his neighborhood.

Oladotun was accused of rape and robbery by the police in Ibadan’s Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court I.

Wahab’s argument of lack of jurisdiction was not accepted by the Chief Magistrate, Mr. Emmanuel Idowu, who ordered his remand at Abolongo prison in Oyo Town.

In anticipation of the resolution of the case file at the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Idowu issued the order (DPP).

The subject was postponed until December 15 for mention by him.

The 70-year-old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by Oladotun on October 6 at around 2:25 p.m., according to the prosecution’s attorney, Inspector Femi Oluwadare.

Oluwadare claimed that the suspect violated her in an unfinished structure. He claimed that Wahab took the victim’s Itel cell phone, worth N6,000, and N21,500 from her.

He claimed that the offense violated Section 357’s rules and was penalized by Section 358 of Oyo State’s 2000 Criminal Code Laws.

He claimed that it also violated the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap. RII, Vol. 14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, Section 1(2)(a) and (b).
