De Genius Academy came alive on Monday as it hosted its highly anticipated biannual inter-house sports competition in Ikorodu, Lagos.
The event was a vibrant showcase of athleticism, teamwork, and discipline, with students demonstrating exceptional skill in athletics, calisthenics, and various physical performances. The day concluded with outstanding participants receiving well-deserved awards and prizes in recognition of their efforts.
Speaking on the significance of the event, the school’s proprietor, Desmond Aiyeleso, emphasized that the inter-house sports competition is a vital part of students’ holistic education, designed to develop them physically, emotionally, and academically. He noted that sports play a crucial role in fostering emotional intelligence and intellectual growth, making it an essential component of the school’s curriculum.
He stated that the biannual sports competition is an extension of the regular weekly sporting activities, which instill hard work, resilience, and discipline in the students.
He also said that it was an opportunity to celebrate diligence and exceptional performance. The event was met with widespread praise from the Patrons of the school’s houses, amongst who were the Patrons of Green House who were highly acclaimed for their attendance. Hon(Dr.) Abiodun Moshood Aro(AMA) a member of the Lagos State House Of Assembly representing Ikorodu Constituency II. Also, Honourable (Princess)Motunrayo Gbadebo Alogba, the Executive Chairman, Ijede LCDA.
They commended the organization and coordination of the sports event and the positive impact on the students. They unanimously agreed that such activities channel youthful energy into productive endeavors, steering students away from societal vices while fostering camaraderie and social development.
They further urged the government to increase investment in primary and secondary schools, both public and private, by providing financial support and talent development programs. Such initiatives, they argued, are crucial to nurturing young athletes and paving the way for a brighter, more promising future.
